Hao Debang

Hao Debang was a notable Chinese chemist recognized for developing the 'Hao Method' of soda production, which marked a significant advancement in the industry by breaking the West's monopoly on high-quality soda manufacturing. He founded the Yongli Chemical Industry Company in Tianjin in 1917, which became the largest soda factory in China before its transition to a state-owned enterprise in the early 1950s. His work not only contributed to the development of China's chemical industry but also showcased the potential of indigenous innovation during a period of industrialization.
