Wang Chonghui was a prominent Chinese legal scholar and the first recipient of a university diploma in China, awarded by the Beiyang University in 1900. He excelled in his studies, earning top honors, and later went on to receive a doctorate from Yale University. Throughout his career, Wang made significant contributions to international law, serving as a judge at the Permanent Court of International Justice in The Hague. He is often referred to as the 'first legal scholar of the Republic' for his pioneering efforts in legal education and his influential translations, including the German Civil Code into English.
