Helena Wijewardena

Helena Wijewardena was a prominent figure in the development of Buddhist architecture in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She initiated the reconstruction of the historic Kelaniya temple in 1888, which has since become a significant religious site. Her vision for a grand temple complex, measuring 150 by 90 feet, aimed to restore the area's religious significance following periods of destruction. Wijewardena's dedication to preserving and enhancing Buddhist heritage is well-remembered.
