Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was a Roman Catholic priest and revolutionary leader who is considered a national hero in Mexico for his role in the country's fight for independence from Spanish rule. His famous 'Grito de Dolores' in 1810 is regarded as the catalyst for the Mexican War of Independence.
