Hiroki Miyata
Hiroki Miyata was a Japanese man wrongfully convicted of murder in 1985, whose case became a significant example of judicial error in Japan. After serving nearly a decade in prison, Miyata's conviction was overturned in 2019 due to the revelation of new evidence, including crucial material that had been withheld during the trial. Following his exoneration, he sought damages from the government, claiming violations of legal obligations during the investigative process. Tragically, Miyata passed away in October 2020 at the age of 87, shortly before a court hearing regarding his compensation claim, which was later pursued by his heirs.
