Hu Ying

Hu Ying was a prominent Chinese chemical engineer and academic, born on June 19, 1934, in Shanghai. He became a professor at East China University of Science and Technology and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1993. Hu was known for his pioneering work in molecular thermodynamics, where he integrated statistical mechanics theory with computer molecular simulation and experimental measurement. His contributions significantly advanced the field of fluid molecular thermodynamics in China over three decades. Hu published several influential books, including 'Molecular Thermodynamics of Fluids' and 'Modern Chemical Thermodynamics.' He dedicated his life to research and education, often advising students on the importance of long-term scientific pursuits over immediate gains. Hu Ying passed away on August 27, 2023, at the age of 89, leaving behind a rich legacy in chemical engineering.
