I.C. is a woman with moderate intellectual disabilities who was forced to work without pay and suffered sexual abuse after being placed on a farm in Moldova under a misguided deinstitutionalization procedure. Abandoned at birth and raised in state care for 24 years, she became a victim of human trafficking and exploitation, which culminated in a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights that found the Moldovan state liable for moral damages.
