Ion Pistol
Ion Pistol, born in 1946 in a modest family from Teleorman, Romania, became the last person sentenced to death under Nicolae Ceaușescu's regime. His life took a tragic turn in 1985 when, under the influence of alcohol, he brutally killed his mother during a violent argument. Following a highly publicized trial in 1986, he was sentenced to death for his crime. Despite attempts to seek clemency from Ceaușescu, his request was denied, and he was executed on May 12, 1987, marking the end of capital punishment in Romania before its abolition in 1990.
