Iorgu Iordan
Iorgu Iordan (1888-1986) was a prominent Romanian linguist and philologist, born in Tecuci, Galați County. He studied at the University of Iași and pursued further education in Germany and France, becoming a professor at the University of Iași and later at the University of Bucharest. Iordan made significant contributions to the fields of Romance linguistics and Romanian philology, authoring numerous works and leading several linguistic journals. He was also a member of the Romanian Academy and served as its vice president. His extensive career included roles as dean and rector of various educational institutions, as well as ambassador to Moscow. Iordan's legacy endures through his scholarly contributions and the foundation of the Romanian Society of Romance Linguistics.
