Irving Fisher

Irving Fisher was an American economist who made significant contributions to economic theory, particularly in the areas of interest rates and monetary policy. He is best known for developing the theory of debt-deflation and was one of the 1,028 economists who opposed the protectionist measures of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act in 1930, advocating instead for free trade as a means to promote economic recovery.
