Ismail Gulgee

Ismail Gulgee, born Abdul Muhammad in 1926 in Peshawar, Pakistan, was a celebrated modernist painter known for his abstract works that blended Islamic calligraphy and Western action painting. As a self-taught artist, he gained recognition for his bold use of color and innovative techniques, creating iconic pieces that showcased his unique style. Gulgee's career evolved from portraiture to grand abstract compositions, and he became a significant figure in the art world, influencing generations of artists. Tragically, he and his wife Zari were found dead in 2007, leaving behind a powerful legacy that continues to inspire.
