Jhael Isa Tavárez has been appointed as the new executive director of the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret) in the Dominican Republic, following a presidential decree aimed at enhancing the planning and sustainability of the nation's public transport system. With a strong background in civil engineering and transportation, Tavárez previously served as the executive director of the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transportation System (FITRAM), overseeing key projects including the Monorail and Santiago Cable Car. He holds a master's degree in Transportation Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is currently pursuing a PhD in Civil Engineering Systems with a concentration in Transportation at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Known for his influential role in transforming public transport in the country, he is dedicated to fostering sustainable and integrated mobility solutions.
