João Vieira is a veteran Portuguese race walker born in 1974, known for his remarkable longevity in the sport. He is set to participate in his 14th World Championships in Tokyo, making him the oldest athlete in the competition. Vieira began his international career in 1999 and achieved his first major medal, a bronze in the 20km race, in 2019 after the original winner was disqualified.
