Joel Barratt

Dr. Joel Barratt is a former head of the federal laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) responsible for identifying parasitic outbreaks in the United States. He resigned in 2022 due to significant staff reductions and funding cuts during the Trump administration, which he warned could hinder the response to future outbreaks. Barratt is now an associate professor at Emory University School of Medicine, where he continues to focus on the study of cyclospora and malaria.
