John Artis
John Artis was an American man wrongfully convicted of murder alongside boxer Rubin Carter in the 1960s. Like Carter, he faced racial bias in the legal system that led to their convictions for a crime they did not commit. Artis spent nearly three decades in prison before being exonerated in 1988. Following his release, he worked to raise awareness about wrongful convictions and the issues of racial injustice in the American legal system.
