John Warnock Hinckley Jr. is known for his attempted assassination of U.S. President Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981, which he claimed was intended to impress actress Jodie Foster. Following the attack, Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and spent decades in mental health facilities before being released in 2016.
