Juan Carlos Mezhua

Juan Carlos Mezhua was a prominent Mexican politician and leader of the indigenous community in Zongolica, Veracruz. He served as a municipal president and as both a local and federal deputy, representing the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). Known for his integrity and dedication to social development, Mezhua worked to enhance tourism and implement social programs during his tenure as mayor. He was also an advocate for indigenous rights and sought to establish a new political party after his recent independent candidacy for governor did not meet the necessary requirements. Tragically, he was assassinated in a targeted attack, highlighting the ongoing violence faced by political figures in the region.
