Juan Manuel Fernández-Ramos

Juan Manuel Fernández-Ramos is a 30-year-old Cuban migrant who has spent considerable time in the IAH Polk adult detention center in Livingston, Texas. He reflects on the difficult conditions of detention, the longing for freedom, and the emotional toll of being separated from his fiancée, Jessy, whom he planned to marry. Juan often grapples with the absurdity of life in detention, where he and his fellow inmates share exaggerated tales of their pasts to cope with their situation. After a long journey from Cuba, he contemplates his future in the U.S. as he faces the possibility of deportation.
