Karađorđe Petrović (1768-1817) was a prominent Serbian leader and revolutionary figure, best known as the founder of modern Serbia and the leader of the First Serbian Uprising against Ottoman rule. His leadership during the uprising initiated a series of events that led to Serbia's gradual independence. He was elected at a national assembly on Sretenje in 1804, marking a significant moment in Serbian history.
