Karim Sanžabi

politician Iran

Karim Sanžabi was a prominent Iranian politician and lawyer who played a significant role in the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Born in the early 20th century, he was a key figure in the National Front, a political organization that sought to establish a secular and democratic government in Iran. Educated at the prestigious Sorbonne University, Sanžabi was known for his advocacy of liberal reforms and his opposition to the monarchy of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In October 1978, he met with Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Paris to discuss the revolution's objectives, emphasizing the principles of democracy and Islam. Despite his efforts, the revolution led to the establishment of an Islamic Republic, and Sanžabi's vision of a secular Iran was largely sidelined in the ensuing political landscape.
