
Kasturba Gandhi
Kasturba Gandhi was the wife of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi. Born in 1869 in Porbandar, India, she was married to Gandhi at the age of 13 and remained a steadfast partner throughout his life and activism. Though she was illiterate for most of her life, Kasturba played a significant role in the Indian independence movement, supporting her husband’s philosophy of nonviolent resistance. She often faced the challenges of public life alongside Gandhi, participating in protests and enduring imprisonment for their shared cause. Despite the complexities of their marriage, which included periods of separation and Gandhi's strict adherence to his principles, Kasturba's unwavering support and resilience were vital to Gandhi’s work and legacy. She passed away in 1944, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with her husband's vision for India.
