
Kevin C. Karnes
Kevin C. Karnes is a prominent musicologist and professor at Emory University in the United States, as well as a visiting professor at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He holds a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master's degree from the University of Washington, and a PhD from Brandeis University. His research focuses on the creative figures and culture of Eastern and Central Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries, combining archival research and ethnography with sound studies, anthropology, philosophy, art history, Jewish studies, and Baltic studies. Karnes is the author of four books, including 'Sounds Beyond: Arvo Pärt and the 1970s Soviet Underground' (2021), and he is known for his lectures on the music of Arvo Pärt.
