Khamtay Siphandone
Khamtay Siphandone was a prominent Laotian politician who played a crucial role in the country's history, serving as Prime Minister from 1991 to 1998 and as President from 1998 to 2006. Born in 1924 in Champasack Province, he became involved in the struggle for independence from French colonial rule and joined the Laotian People's Revolutionary Party. Throughout his political career, he was known for fostering strong relations with Vietnam and contributing to the development of Laos. He passed away on April 2, 2023, at the age of 101, prompting national mourning in Laos.
