Knut Frænkel was a Swedish engineer and a key member of the Andrée Expedition of 1897, which sought to navigate to the North Pole using a hydrogen balloon. Alongside Salomon August Andrée and Nils Strindberg, Frænkel's journey ended in disaster, contributing to one of the most enduring mysteries in polar exploration history.
