Lampros Katsonis
Lampros Katsonis (1752-1804) was a legendary Greek naval commander known for his daring exploits against the Ottoman fleet during the late 18th century. Born in Livadeia, he became an orphan early in life and sought adventure as a sailor, ultimately joining the Russian fleet. Katsonis gained notoriety for his successful raids against Ottoman ships, earning the favor of Catherine the Great. His tactical prowess and bravery earned him a fearsome reputation in the Mediterranean, but his activities often blurred the lines between privateering and piracy. After a tumultuous career marked by both triumph and conflict, he settled in Crimea, where he passed away in 1804.
