Leila Cohoon
Leila Cohoon was a pioneering hair artist and the founder of Leila's Hair Museum in Independence, Missouri. She began collecting hair art in 1956 and amassed a remarkable collection of over 3,000 pieces, including intricate wreaths and jewelry made from human hair. Cohoon's passion for this unique art form preserved a significant aspect of history that had largely been overlooked, and she spent her life educating others about hair art, even writing a book on the subject. She passed away in November 2022 at the age of 92, leaving behind a rich legacy that her family, particularly her granddaughter Lindsay Evans, is now working to preserve.
