León de Jesús Castillo was a prominent figure in the history of Santa Tecla, El Salvador, known for promoting the construction of the Iglesia del Carmen, which began in 1877 and was completed in 1914. His dedication to the church was inspired by a personal promise made to the Virgin of Carmen after surviving a life-threatening situation in Guatemala.
