Leonid Pshenichnov

Leonid Pshenichnov, 70, is a Ukrainian biologist with extensive expertise in Antarctic marine ecosystems and a long history of advocating for marine conservation. Renowned for his research contributions to the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), Pshenichnov has dedicated his career to studying and protecting the fragile Antarctic environment. Recently, he was arrested in Russian-occupied Crimea and accused of high treason for allegedly undermining Russia's krill fishing interests through his support for conservation measures, igniting a diplomatic dispute over his detention.
