Mao Jiangsen
Mao Jiangsen was a prominent Chinese virologist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who significantly contributed to the field of virology over a career spanning more than 50 years. Born on January 15, 1934, in Jiangshan, Zhejiang Province, he graduated from Shanghai Medical College in 1956 and embarked on a career in virus research at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Mao was instrumental in the development of the poliovirus vaccine and made significant advancements in the research and development of the hepatitis A vaccine, which greatly reduced the incidence of the disease in China. He served as the director of the Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences and was elected as an academician in 1991. Mao passed away on May 18, 2023, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of scientific achievement and contributions to public health.
