María Magdalena Dámasa Güemes de Tejada

Known as Macacha Güemes, María Magdalena Dámasa Güemes de Tejada, born on December 11, 1787, in Salta, played a crucial role in Argentina's independence movement as the sister of General Martín Miguel de Güemes. From 1810, she was instrumental in organizing support networks for the revolutionary forces and contributed strategically to defend northern Argentina against royalist invasions. In March 1816, she was a principal architect of the Pacto de los Cerrillos, which unified local forces and facilitated the political environment necessary for the declaration of independence.
