Initially involved in judo, he switched to wrestling after watching the Olympic performance of Božo Starčević in 2016. His talent was quickly recognized as he won a gold medal in the heavyweight category at the international cadet championship in Zagreb and again at a prestigious competition in Subotica, where he dominated his competition.
