He is a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and is currently in the news for his decision to postpone his departure to a leadership retreat in Magelang, following an instruction from the party's chairwoman, Megawati Soekarnoputri, amid the recent detention of PDI-P's Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto by the Corruption Eradication Commission.
