Sheikh Mahmud

Sheikh Mahmud is a revered Sufi figure believed to have come from Persia, who significantly contributed to the spread of Islam in Indonesia, particularly in the Barus region. His teachings and practices combined elements of Sufism with trade, helping to establish a lasting Islamic presence in the archipelago, where his tomb is now a site of pilgrimage.
