
Mbye Cham
Mbye Cham was a distinguished Gambian scholar and professor of African Literature and Film at Howard University, known for his contributions to African Film Studies and as a film producer. Born in 1947, he faced various academic challenges, including a student revolt during his studies in Senegal, but ultimately earned degrees across three continents. Over his prolific career, Cham published extensively on notable African filmmakers and authors, served on juries for major African film festivals, and directed films that honored African heritage, including a documentary on Gambian sculptor Comrade Ebou Sillah.
