Mikhail Lermontov (1814-1841) was a prominent Russian poet, playwright, and novelist, often regarded as one of the greatest figures of 19th-century Russian literature. His most famous work, the novel 'A Hero of Our Time,' explores themes of existentialism and the complexities of the human spirit. Lermontov's poetry is celebrated for its emotional depth and lyrical beauty, often reflecting his turbulent life and the political climate of his time. He was influenced by Alexander Pushkin and is sometimes seen as his literary successor, contributing significantly to Russian Romanticism before his untimely death in a duel at the age of 26.
