Mikola Leontovici

Mikola Leontovici was a prominent Ukrainian composer and music educator, best known for transforming traditional Ukrainian folk melodies into the globally recognized Christmas carol 'Carol of the Bells.' Born in 1877, he played a significant role in the cultural awakening of Ukraine in the early 20th century. His work not only contributed to the Ukrainian music scene but also served as a political statement against oppression. Tragically, Leontovici was executed by Soviet secret police in 1921, but his legacy endures as a symbol of Ukrainian resilience and cultural pride.
