Milcíades, believed to have been born in Africa, served as Pope during a transformative period when Christianity was gaining acceptance within the Roman Empire. His papacy marked the transition of Christianity from a persecuted faith to the official religion of the empire, facilitated by the support of Emperor Constantine, who granted him an official residence and permission to construct the Basilica of Letrán.
