Mykolas Statkevičius

Mykolas Statkevičius is a Belarusian opposition politician who has faced significant persecution under the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko. He was imprisoned before the 2020 elections and sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges related to organizing mass unrest, which human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have deemed politically motivated. After being released recently, it was reported that he suffered a stroke while in custody and is currently recovering at home, facing challenges with speech.
