Nica Borgese

Nica Borgese, born in 1944 in Milan, is the granddaughter of the renowned German author Thomas Mann. She is the daughter of Mann's fifth child, Elisabeth, and the Italian anti-fascist literary critic Giuseppe Antonio Borgese. Nica recalls her childhood visits to her grandfather's home in California, where she experienced a blend of admiration and pressure stemming from her illustrious family lineage. Despite her esteemed heritage, she sought to forge her own identity, pursuing a career in cellular biology and distancing herself from the shadow of her grandfather's legacy.
