Nicolae Pisoski
Colonel Nicolae Pisoski, often referred to as 'Moș Pisoi', was a key figure in the unification of the Romanian Principalities in the 19th century. Born in Botoșani in 1812, he was a dedicated patriot and ally of Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Pisoski played a crucial role in the political maneuvering leading to the election of Cuza as ruler, notably by urging the National Party to nominate him during a critical assembly. Known for his discretion, Pisoski preferred to work behind the scenes, ensuring the success of the union while remaining a loyal friend and aide to Cuza throughout his reign. His contributions to the modernization and unification of Romania are significant, yet he is often overshadowed by more prominent historical figures. He passed away in 1888, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism and dedication to the Romanian cause.
