Nikolai Danilewski

Nikolai Danilewski (1822-1885) was a Russian botanist and writer whose work, 'Russia and Europe,' posited that nations were like living organisms and that Russia was inherently opposed to Europe. His theories were influential among later Russian intellectuals and have been appropriated by contemporary political leaders to justify a sense of Russian superiority and uniqueness.
