Nikolai Yashin was a Soviet reconnaissance officer and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union, recognized for his bravery during World War II. He is known for his actions on June 27, 1944, when he led a platoon across the Dnieper River near the village of Lupolovo during the liberation of Mogilev. Tragically, Yashin was killed in battle the following day, and while a memorial plaque in his honor was placed on a bridge in Mogilev, there is debate about the accuracy of his association with that specific location.
