Oleg Horjan
Oleg Horjan was a prominent leader of the Communist Party in the breakaway region of Transnistria. He became known for his opposition to the local regime, which led to his illegal detention in 2018 for organizing a peaceful protest. Despite being imprisoned, Horjan continued to advocate for the rights of political prisoners. He was released in December 2022 after a court ruling deemed his previous conviction unlawful. Tragically, on July 17, 2023, Horjan was found murdered in his home, leaving many questions about the circumstances of his death and the political climate in Transnistria.
