Oleksandr Shemet
Oleksandr Shemet was a Ukrainian helicopter pilot and commander of a Mi-24 crew, born in Korюkivka, Chernihiv Oblast. He became a national hero for his bravery during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, notably for a daring mission in April 2022 where he successfully delivered supplies and evacuated wounded soldiers from the besieged Azovstal plant in Mariupol. Shemet served in the military since 2015 and was recognized with multiple honors, including the title of Hero of Ukraine. Tragically, he lost his life in a helicopter crash on December 17, 2022, during a mission against Russian drones in Cherkasy Oblast.
