Ömer Halisdemir

Ömer Halisdemir was a Turkish special forces officer celebrated for his heroic actions during the 15 July 2016 coup attempt in Turkey. He played a pivotal role in thwarting the coup by fatally shooting a key figure among the coup plotters, which significantly changed the course of events that night. Halisdemir was subsequently killed in the firefight, and his bravery has since made him a symbol of resistance and patriotism in Turkey. His legacy is commemorated at various memorials, including a dedicated site at the Special Forces Command where he fell, which has been preserved to honor his sacrifice.
