Onufriy Berezovsky
Onufriy Berezovsky, known as Metropolitan Onufriy, is the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). Recently, he has been in the news due to the decision by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to revoke his Ukrainian citizenship, as the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that he voluntarily acquired Russian citizenship in 2002 without notifying Ukrainian authorities. The SBU has accused Onufriy of maintaining ties with the Moscow Patriarchate and opposing the independence of the Ukrainian church, which has raised significant controversy in the context of ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
