Ossama bin Laden
Ossama bin Laden was the founder of the militant organization Al-Qaeda and is most known for orchestrating the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people. Born in Saudi Arabia in 1957, he was a member of a wealthy family with ties to the Saudi royal family. Bin Laden became involved in militant Islamic causes during the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s, where he gained experience in guerrilla warfare and established a network of jihadist operatives. His ideology was rooted in a radical interpretation of Islam, and he saw the United States as a primary enemy due to its support for Israel and presence in the Middle East. He was killed in a U.S. Navy SEAL operation in Pakistan in 2011.
