
Pablo González Yagüe
Pablo González Yagüe, also known by his Russian name Pavel Rubtsov, is a Spanish-Russian journalist facing serious legal challenges in Poland. He has been accused of espionage for the Russian military intelligence, the GRU, during a period from 2016 to 2022. González was detained in February 2022 at the Poland-Ukraine border shortly after the onset of the Russian invasion, and spent two and a half years in custody awaiting trial. He was released in August 2024 as part of a prisoner exchange between Western nations and Russia, receiving a warm welcome from Russian President Vladimir Putin upon his return. His trial is set to resume soon, with the court requiring his presence to address the charges against him.
