Paul Grüninger
Paul Grüninger was a Swiss police chief in St. Gallen known for his courageous actions during the late 1930s, when he illegally provided refuge to Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis. Despite facing legal repercussions and public vilification for his defiance against government orders, Grüninger is now celebrated as a humanitarian hero for saving hundreds, possibly thousands, of lives. After years of struggle for recognition, he was posthumously rehabilitated in 1995, and honored as a 'Righteous Among the Nations' by Yad Vashem.
