Paul Kapur

Paul Kapur is an Indian-origin American scholar and government official who has been nominated by Donald Trump for the role of assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia. Born in New Delhi to an Indian father and an American mother, Kapur has a deep understanding of South Asian geopolitics, having grown up in the United States and returned to study the region extensively. He has served on the U.S. State Department’s Policy Planning Staff and is currently a professor at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, where he focuses on national security affairs. Kapur's vision includes strengthening U.S.-India relations while pursuing security cooperation with Pakistan where it aligns with U.S. interests.
